The Bellerive Oval is a 16,000-capacity sports stadium located in Hobart on the Australian island state of Tasmania. Used predominately for cricket and Australian rules, the Bellerive Oval hosted its first Test in 1989 (when Australia played Sri Lanka) and its first One Day International (ODI) in 1988 (when Sri Lanka played New Zealand).[1] The ground has seen nine Tests—all including Australia—along with 27 ODIs, and has been the scene of 25 Test and 11 ODI centuries.[2][3]

It took until 1997 for the first Test century by an overseas player at the ground, the New Zealander Matt Horne scored the first with 133. Ricky Ponting, a Tasmanian, is the only player to have scored a double century at the ground, Ponting's innings of 209 was made against Pakistan in 2010. The Sri Lankan Kumar Sangakkara holds the record for the highest Test innings by an overseas player at the ground, managing 192 in 2007.[2]
The first ODI century made at the Bellerive Oval was in 1988 by the West Indian Desmond Haynes, scoring 101 against Pakistan. The Australian Adam Gilchrist holds the record for the highest ODI innings at the ground, Gilchrist scored 172 against Zimbabwe in 2004.[3]
